Now that summer is only a few weeks around the corner, how are you going to wear your hair? Some hair experts think that women over 40 shouldn’t just go with the trend, but also with personal preference. But here is where it gets challenging! Some women still want to be in their twenties by donning the Miley Cyrus or Rihanna look with the side shaved head or the spiked colored tips. Remember, you already went through that phase, so you don’t have to go back to it. In fact, there are so many other looks that will compliment your complexion, taste, and age.
For the most part, summer hairdos should be simple because you may end up spending more time in the pool or on the beach than anywhere else. One thing is certain, though, you should not grow out your roots. A lot of women will start to gray at the root as they age. So make sure you keep dying your roots to maintain that youthful look.
Gone are the days when women wore that overly blonde and platinum hairdo or hair that is too dark. Those looks are no longer trendy. Dark hair will make you look too heavy and aged. Why? Well, it drains your skin color and the blonde hairdo will do absolutely nothing for the tone of your skin either.
So what are we going to do to change this? For summer, go for the natural and sun-kissed look. Balayage will lighten up your hair and create that sun-kissed appearance. Additionally, it will make different variations of hair color seem natural. Your hair will look more youthful and fresh. If your hair is naturally dark, it will be lightened with balayage and the color in your face won’t appear drained.
Bob or lob
Consider a long bob or lob for the summer. Forget about the long hair. A bob will skim your shoulders and caress your neckline. We are not talking about that serious bob that Victoria Beckham wore years ago. The long bob or lob offers a softer and more feminine hairdo that gives you multiple styling options. You can wear it straight. You can do soft curls. You can put a part on either side or in the center. It all depends on the shape of your face. So have a hair consultation with your hair stylists to help figure out which is best for you.
If you are the kind of woman that doesn’t mind trying new things, you could color your hair a rich brown with a touch of red. This is great for women over 40. It will give you a chic and elegant look.
